People living in apartments consume 25% more energy than those living in detached dwellings. Up to half of this energy is consumed in shared areas such as hallways, swimming pools and car parks.
Actions such as switching to energy efficient lighting, installing solar panels, tweaking heating and hot water systems and retrofitting carbon sensors to car park ventilation systems have the potential to save tens of thousands of dollars.
Strata Community Australia Limited (Strata) has developed a website, Smart Blocks, which includes tools and guidance materials to help apartment owners and their managers to improve the energy efficiency of common property in apartment buildings.
The Smart Blocks website includes case studies on a range of topics, including:
- how to get started with energy efficiency
- solar power.
See the case studies on the Strata website.
The Smart Blocks website also includes toolkits on topics such as how to get started with energy efficiency, lighting, pools, amenities, ventilation, and solar power.
See the Strata Smart Blocks website for more information on energy efficiency in the residential strata sector.
