Flinders Island Hybrid Energy Hub
The off-grid Tasmanian Flinders Island community has relied solely on diesel-based generators for power, until now. Hydro Tasmania will switch on a hybrid energy hub for the island in December, enabling at least 60% of the island’s power to be sourced from renewables. A mix of wind and solar power, with tidal to be harnessed in the near future, will ensure reliable delivery of energy. The Bass Strait community is hoping to achieve a 100% renewables-based system. The development follows the success of the King Island Renewable Energy Integration Project.
