Glossary
Western Australia’s independent economic regulator responsible for the regulation of monopoly infrastructure in the electricity, gas, and rail sectors. The Authority administers the energy industry licensing arrangements and approves the charges set by electricity transmission, electricity distribution, regulated gas transmission, and gas distribution pipeline owners in Western Australia.
Light efficiency is termed ‘efficacy’ and is measured in light output per unit of electrical input level, or lumens per Watt. In general, a higher efficacy means a higher efficiency. Each lamp type has different typical efficacy. However, a lamp’s initial efficacy is only one factor in an efficient lighting system. Luminaires, ballasts, spectral output, CRI, and brightness over the course of the lamps lifetime also strongly contribute to ensuring an effective lighting system with minimal energy consumption, as does a light’s ability to be switched or dimmed [1. Sustainability Victoria (2009) Energy Efficiency Best Practice Guide: Lighting].
The delivery of electricity from the extra high voltage transmission network to individual end users. See also Electricity Transmission.
A standardised exchange-based contract for difference that specifies the price and quantity of electricity that will be traded at a specified point in the future. These contracts are used to hedge financial risk rather than physically trade power. See also Contracts for Difference.
The bulk transport of electricity through extra high voltage power lines.
An electricity network, not owned by an electricity distributor, that is part of a multi-tenanted or strata titled building. The local distributor has an obligation to install meters that allow individual tenants and/or owners to select their own energy retailer and assign a network tariff to each meter. Where feasible, a single end-user can arrange for the individual meters to be consolidated to a single metering point within the building, thereby benefiting from lower network tariff costs than would apply to all the individual meters.
Prescribed activities included in Schedule 6 of the Renewable Energy (Electricity) Regulations 2001 that provide a partial exemption from Large-Scale Renewable Energy Target and Small-Scale Renewable Energy Scheme liabilities. See also Large-Scale Renewable Energy Target (LRET) and Small-Scale Renewable Energy Scheme (SRES).
These clearly show where energy is used, transformed and lost, and how the materials flow in correlation to energy use. They illustrate this across the site, processes and systems, items of equipment and miscellaneous equipment such as pipes and ducts.
Emissions attributable to consumption of electricity and combustion of fuels.
