A range of energy-efficiency training providers and options are available, including accredited training, on-the-job learning, government workshops, and programs offered by professional and industry associations.

Government programs

NSW energy efficiency training

The NSW Government's energy efficiency training courses offer the opportunity for hands-on experience in energy management. Courses range from energy management basics through to working with a variety of technologies.

NSW Sustainability Advantage program

Sustainability Advantage is open to organisations from the not-for-profit, government and medium-to-large business sectors. It attracts participants from many industries, including manufacturing, commercial property, registered clubs, health, aged care, transport and education.

Queensland’s ecoBiz program

Ecobiz is currently in a review and evaluation phase, and input form the public is invited. The sustainability resources from the program are still available for use.

National Australian Built Environment Rating System

NABERS is a national performance-based system that rates buildings on the basis of measured operational impacts on the environment which relies on accredited assessors. The website has information on NABERS assessor training and accreditation.

Professional and industry organisations

Australian Institute of Refrigeration, Air Conditioning and Heating

AIRAH offers a number of short courses and post-graduate qualifications in energy efficiency and energy auditing.

Australian Power Institute

API was established by the electricity power industry to support engineers in the power sector. API's bursary program provides support to students.

Carbon Training International

CTI offers a range of courses to build skills and knowledge in carbon management. Topics include cogeneration, carbon offsets, NGERS audit compliance and home energy efficiency.

Energy Efficiency Council

The Energy Efficiency Certification Scheme certifies professionals who can lead comprehensive energy retrofits of commercial buildings.

Energy Users Association of Australia

EUAA holds regular events and workshops on energy markets, pricing and climate change related issues. 

Engineers Australia

EA’s Professional Development Program is a platform for engineers to achieve chartered status through career path progression and work-based training. 

Manufacturing Skills Australia 

There are six Energy Efficiency Skill Sets in the MSS11 Sustainability Training Package which cover the skills needed to identify and measure energy consumption and plan energy improvements.

Tertiary education

Fluid Mechanics and Heat Transfer Australian National University

This is an undergraduate course offered by the Research School of Engineering. Includes tuition on applying energy efficiency principles to engineered fluid systems.

Energy Efficiency short courses University of Wollongong

Professional development short courses for engineers and other interested participants.  Each short course is designed to be delivered over two days, with a significant component dedicated to hands-on, interactive, or discussion-based activities.
